College, and specifically UCLA, gymnastics seems like such a fun and encouraging place. I love how she’s genuinely smiling throughout the entire video and how her teammates are cheering her on and truly loving and supporting her throughout her routine. I hope we can get more of this in sports!

My favourite thing is the fact her team mates do parts of the routine with her. It’s so cute. And I love her

And how they assumed it was short for ‘foreboding’ or something, but that doesn’t even make sense because there’s no bode in foreboding? This is the actual origin of that prophetic vision.

this is not discourse. discourse is defined as written or spoken debate, and the thing about bi!jake is that it is not a debate. i am not fighting to protect my opinion, i am fighting to protect my identity. saying “i think that jake is bi” is not an OPINION in the same way that “i think jake likes candy” is an opinion. when i say “i think jake is bi” it is because i see the way he is portrayed as a character and i identify with him based on that shared identity and i SEE myself in media! i see someone who is like me and i know that people like me exist. i am not alone. and often times shows in media seem to want me to feel that way. i look at characters like jake and i feel SEEN, even if it’s not something the show is aware of. 

you see, when you tell people “respect all headcanons and opinions! even if they’re as crazy as thinking that xxx is yyy!!” you are grouping things like sexuality and random details in the same category, you are lessening the importance of representation. someone saying “jake is bi” isn’t a thing to be taken lightly. it’s not as simple as “letting people have their own opinions” respect must be given! credence must be given to these words! because in our tumultuous world it is so important to protect the marginalized, and that INCLUDES validating the way we consume media, and find representation in it.

this brings me to my next point: please don’t headcanon characters as straight (unless its a joke) because it’s literally… the same as saying “i headcanon that character as a person who breathes air”. see how stupid that sounds? our heteronormative society ASSUMES that everyone is straight, unless proven otherwise. and when it comes to fictional worlds, as an audience the lengths to which lgbt people have to go to prove that we are valid in saying characters are lgbt is so… upsetting. why do we have to fight so hard for our right to exist?

so honestly. very honestly. a question i want to ask to everyone who “headcanons” jake as straight: why does he need to be?
